Girly VS Modern
In choosing these two websites for this project I wanted to pick two different web pages which express their ideas, views and creativity through the websites they created. In my findings I came across many different site in which fit the mold but were way too similar to each and would be too easy to compare and would have many features that were similar to each other. In the end I finally decided to choose the site everythinggirlslove.com and medium.com. In both of these site they portrayed elements which I wanted to portray on my own site. I choose the site everythinggirlslove.com because I am very familiar with it, being a fan of the creator Yandy Smith and a frequent viewer of the site. I also, loved the vibe and colors the site had. When I entered the site I could not help but feel empowered as a young woman. This site was not overly girly and had an upbeat vibe to it. I choose the site Medium.com because I instantly fell in love with the photography in the background image. Each page on this site had beautiful photograph as a background, this gave the site the modern look I like to see. I also like that the site was similar to tumblr or blogspot where people could post their thoughts and feelings and others could reblog or add notes to it. I choosing these sites I hope to embody a mix of a girly yet modern look on my site.
Medium.comMedium is an internet blog in which users have the ability to post stories that are no longer than 140 characters. This blog empowers anyone who has the ability to view the site. The purpose of the site is to change the world, through short stories and post readers can gain some knowledge about a particular issues. The site doesn't sell any single product or item, a sense of community is built by different users commenting sharing ideas about different stories posted to the site. The site isn't really connected by on singular cause. This site is really used to share experiences, attitudes, feelings and lifestyles.
The logo for this site is pretty simple, it’s a Capital M that represents the site’s name. The is no repeating background image. On each page of the site there are different background images. Each image is a photograph of a particular object, animal, place or even person. These photos give the site a very artsy, modern and slick feel. I wouldn't say there is a color package but the photographs used for each web page background can influence the view and help add emotion to a particular post. Since the post on these web pages are made by various members of this site the range in audience can vary depending on what you are reading. Most authors on here use simply language that helps get their point across quickly and the most accurate way they can in a 140 characters or less. One feature if this site is the search navigation bar. This feature allows users to look a particular subject or topic and find post about it. I believe the people who will use this site the most are those interested in reading blogs and opinions which aren’t very lengthy. Users of this site generally interact through commenting on each other’s posts and sharing ideas. I like the design of this site but I don’t think I would personally use this site. In my website I would like emulate the artsy, slick look that this website manages to maintain. I love the picture they use for the background images, these images make the website more appealing to those who enjoy art. |
EverythingGirlslove.comThis site Everythingggirlslove is blog that informs women of all ages about different topics and events currently effecting women all over the country. This site works to educate and empower by allowing then to know and understand the different events that effect their community. This site also allows women to celebrate the things that make all women beautiful. This site is also connected to a jewelry line which supports beauty among women. Since this website does touch several topics which relate to politics, health and many other topics viewers may find interesting. The main base in which the site communicates its issues to its viewers is through video and visual images/ logos.
The logo of this website is pretty simple, they are the initials for the website along with a quote which states “A place where balancing career and family in stilettos is the rule and not the exception”. This logo fits the purpose of site and empowers the modern day woman. The website doesn't have a repeating image but it does have a very girly vibe. I've also noticed that on every new page a viewer clicks on a pink heart can be found somewhere of the page, this heart also adds to the girly vibe present on this site. As a female viewing this site the design not only grabs my attention because of its feminine appeal but makes me want to continue to search the information on this site. The author of this page seems to be pretty educated on the topics and categories on the website. Although the author seems to have knowledge on the various topics on this site the content of this site can be read by anyone who is interested. Many if not all articles posted on this site are relate to female gender and those whose fit the role of the modern women. I’ve been on this site a few time and I have notice that many of its viewer usually comment under post to share their opinions on a topic or to give advice to others on this site. This feature can be very helpful especially when a reader is seeking a particular type of information. In addition to having the opportunity to share thoughts the reader can also check out website in which the author has used as a help aid in writing the article. The thing I enjoy the most about this website is its feminine appeal and the way its celebrates what are now the modern characteristics of a woman. The fact that website is for woman and isn't overly girly is something I hope to accomplish in the creation and design of my own website. |
Although both of these websites are extremely different I love how they portray the totally different ideas of their sites. Each of these sites have a certain vibe which draws in a particular audience. Even thought they are very different each site brings wonderful ideas of design and audience in which I hope to incorporate into my webpage
